You might think that the most important thing about finding affordable health insurance plan is its affordability. Although it is a major consideration, the most important thing really is whether it will serve the needs of your family; and if you are single, then your needs. This is because once you have established your needs, it is actually easy to find an affordable health insurance plan that provides all your needs and fits your budget.

So, in considering your needs, you should then evaluate your age, plans for the future, your current lifestyle and habits. So this means that, if you are married and plans to have children in the future, then you should put maternity benefits as one of your needs. If you have children, then your needs would be accident and healthcare plans for the kids. If you are single, you should think about accidents. Since you are young and healthy these are what you might end up facing since accidents happen to anyone. And if you have a very active lifestyle and indulge in sports, then your needs would be for broken legs or arms.

Now, the reason why you have health insurance is because the cost of medical expenses these days can be quite damaging to anyone financially. You would not want to have to worry about where to get money for medical expense when you can hardly go to work because of your injury or when you can hardly think of anything else but the well being of your children if they got sick. And even if you have savings, they might not be enough to cover the cost of your medical bills.

Now after considering all your needs, the next step is finding an affordable health insurance plan for yourself and your family. This is very easy and you might even be surprised at how much coverage you can get within your budget. The first thing you should do is to shop around for health insurance plans or getting quotes from different insurance companies. After getting the quotes from the different companies, the next thing you should do is to compare their health plans. Compare all the plans side by side and see which of them meet your needs and fits your budget. Once you have established which the best plan is for yourself or your family, you can now contact the insurance company and ask whatever questions you might have. This will tell you if they are easy to deal with. If they are, then you can now get your insurance from your chosen provider.

You might think that all auto insurance companies are the same as long as they are accredited by your state. Well that is simply not true. Like any other product, there may be many companies that offer them but there is always the best among the rest. As for your auto insurance, finding the best means you will not get the best price, you will also have all the other advantages of having the best insurance provider. This includes from services down to your claim should you get involved in an accident.

So how do you really find the best insurance company when there are too many of them to compare? Well, you start with the very basic, the price. Since there are just too many auto insurance companies out there, you will notice that some really offer very competitive prices. What you should do now is to get a list of at least five companies that offer the most competitive prices. To know that you already have the best price, you will notice that you can actually afford the additional coverage they offer.

Now, since you have the most competitive price, you should now ensure that these companies are quite financially stable. You need to make sure that these companies are just starting out and offering ridiculously priced insurance to get more customers. You also want to make sure that the company will not be in any financial hardship that it will not be able to deliver your claim, or worse, close down. Remember, you are getting insurance so that you will not be facing any problem should you get into an accident. To make sure they are financially stable, check their financial status from unbiased sources like the Weiss Ratings and Standard and Poor’s. So now from your list, remove the companies that you think are not financially stable.

The next thing for you to do is to check with your state’s Department of Insurance as to their overall performance. You will get information including complaints, from your Department of Insurance. After this, check their customer service. The way they handle their customer service is a sign of how they will handle your claim. So, again use unbiased companies that rate customer services of different companies.

Last, check out their types of coverage. You will be more satisfied with a company that offers wide range of coverage than a company with limited number of coverage. Even though you will not get the full coverage, the fact that they offer them shows that they can deliver your claim and can even accommodate you should you decide to get the other coverage.

High risk drivers can sometimes find themselves in a situation where they are not able to easily get the auto insurance policy they want. The higher the risk level they have, the more expensive and more difficult it is to find coverage. It can become frustrating for them to search for a new policy, especially where there is a possibility that some insurers will not provide insurance for fear that they’ll lose money by paying out too many claims. Here are some guidelines to help high risk drivers have better luck at finding a proper insurance policy for their vehicle.

Look For The Lowest Rate
The easiest way for high risk drivers to get the lowest price on an auto insurance policy is to compare the prices that are being offered by local providers. Doing a side by side comparison of the prices will show what’s worth buying and what should be left alone. A quick and easy way to gather a number of quotes is by using our comparison tool. Any driver – high risk or not – can benefit from this process and should take advantage of the possible savings. Answering only a handful of questions in a few minutes will lead the person to the quotes.

These questions that need to be answered will be regarding the driver and the vehicle. It will be determined by the providers how long the driver has been allowed to drive, as well as how many tickets and accidents the driver has been involved in. They take this information, combined with the information about the car, and determine the rate that will be charged and the quotes that will be given. No driver can afford to lose out on the possibility of saving money by doing a quote comparison.

The category of high risk is given to someone who is a brand new on the road, or to someone who has had multiple run-ins with the law. Receiving a high number of tickets and being involved in many accidents will place that driver into this risk level. While it takes a higher number of those traffic incidents, it usually only takes one incident of drunk driving or driving under the influence to be categorized as a high risk driver. This also applies to hit and runs, and vehicular negligent injury. Insurance companies as a whole feel that people who are careless and unsafe in their driving should have to pay more for their insurance, especially when they are typically the ones who file more claims.

Companies Specializing in High Risk Drivers
While most companies will agree to provide coverage to high risk drivers, the most common companies charge a very high rate to do so. Drivers will even notice after using our comparison tool that high risk insurance, even the cheaper rates for it, are much pricier than coverage for the average driver. Looking in the direction of companies that specialize in high risk insurance is another method to use to get cheaper rates. These companies assume the higher risk because they feel they can draw in more consumers with their lower prices, and they are hopeful the driver will not need to file a claim (even though statistics say otherwise).

Trying out these insurers may help keep the high risk driver’s payments down. Going with one of these companies and combining their rates with whatever type of discounts they offer will also get a cheaper deal in the long run. Trying to qualify for a senior citizen discount, a good student discount, or discounts offered by taking driving improvement classes are not structured around the current driving record and could prove to be helpful in saving money.

High Risk Drivers Switching Insurance Providers
It is sometimes recommended to drivers to look for the cheapest price offered for an auto insurance policy and then switch to that company. For high risk drivers, it may not always be the best thing to do. Staying with an insurer for a while, especially if it is a company that specializes in high risk insurance, the premium price may begin to go down with each renewal, assuming the driver has avoided receiving any tickets, accidents or other violations. A driver who has been incident free for a policy period or two may want to point that out to their provider and ask for a rate decrease. This isn’t possible to do when the policyholder is constantly switching companies. The new company won’t be convinced of a changed attitude the way an old or existing company would be.

Decreasing Risk Level
There are a few things a high risk driver can do to lower their assigned risk level and improve their rates. These will take time and must be consistently worked on. First, pay all fines for any violations that still need to be paid. Don’t have anything that needs to be paid left on the record. Call the local DMV to double check that all violations have been taken care of, and find out if there is anything that can be done as far as they are concerned to help with the situation.

Second, don’t get any additional violations! Know the speed limit and follow it. Make complete stops at red lights and stop signs, and pay attention to the yellow lights. Observe all of the other vehicles on the road and know where they are in relation to your vehicle. Never, ever drive while under the influence of any drug, including prescriptions, or alcohol. Always have a designated driver or a cab available for those situations.

Third, drive a vehicle that won’t encourage reckless behavior and speeding. Cars that look like they can go fast will be driven fast, so opt for a modest vehicle.

Auto insurance for high risk drivers will always be more expensive than insurance for the average driver, but there are ways to lower the price and get it cheaper when compared to other high risk insurance policies. Don’t give up and think there’s no way to pay a less expensive amount, because there’s always the chance there will be something better available.

by Graham McKenzie

You will want to understand how your life insurance rights will affect you and your family. You should do this before you purchase a life insurance program to make sure that you find a program that will fit your needs. You will need to remember that changing a program to work for you is harder than finding a program.

The rights you have when it comes to life insurance are related to the type of insurance that you get. The most known type of life insurance is whole life insurance. This insurance provides your family with a monthly rate of money until the total is paid out. The other main type of life insurance is term life insurance. This type of insurance has lower premium rates however it expires after a certain number of years.

Both types of life insurance are protected by the free look period under state law. In every state you will be entitled somewhere between 10 and 30 days to cancel your policy if you don?t like the terms and agreements. You should review the policy and make sure you understand what everything means. If you decide that you no longer want the policy then you can cancel it by the final day by returning the papers with a written statement that says that you?re canceling your policy. The company is then forced to refund anything you?ve paid them and void your contract.

You should use this time to take the policy to your lawyer and look for any loopholes that the company may have put in the fine print. While the policies are supposed to be easy to review they are often times not. Due to the technicality of the wording that they use it may become confusing. Also in some cases an agent might not fully explain some of the clauses that are in the fine print. It?s best to have a professional look over the paperwork after you have.

Understand that it will be harder for you to get life insurance down the road if you decide to get term life insurance now. Since older individuals are not expected to life as long they are usually subject to higher rates. It usually costs a fair amount of money but you can arrange the payouts and monthly payments to your liking. Also if you?re an older individual looking for life insurance then you should consider offering an initial lump sum of money to the insurance company. This will not only lower your monthly payments but it will help you get a policy with that company. Educate your family so that they know that they may be able to negotiate the payment policy even after you?ve passed away.

by Graham McKenzie

We are all obligated to carry car insurance for our vehicles. It is not legal to drive a car that is not properly insured on the road. The cost of insurance is expensive and there are many people who cannot afford the cost and are always looking for ways to lower premiums and save money on their monthly payments.

There are several approaches to lowering the cost of car insurance premiums. First you have to shop around in order to know that you are getting the best and the lowest rate. Comparing rates is easily done either by using the internet or by calling over the phone to several insurance companies and this is the only way to make sure you get the best coverage at the lowest price.

After you have obtained several quotes you will need to look at all the details before deciding which is right for you. The best quote is not always the least expensive and in many cases you will find that several of the insurance quotes will have very similar rates. It can make it tough to decide on the right one so before making your final decision be sure to get all the details.

The policy you select should have enough coverage to meet your needs. It is not the time to find out your coverage is inadequate after an accident or when filing a claim. If you select a liability coverage policy you should know that your vehicle is not be covered if an accident is your fault, if the vehicles stolen or damaged due to vandalism or any natural causes. Full coverage insurance protects your vehicle as well as your passengers in the event of an accident even if you are at fault.

Many insurance policies include underinsured or uninsured motorist protection on their policies and this is something to be considered. It is illegal to drive a vehicle that does not have insurance but many people still do and many people have the bare legal minimums for coverage and if you are involved in an accident with someone like this you may be left holding the bill without that added protection.

The deductibles are an important part of your monthly premiums costs. The larger the deductible the smaller your monthly premium. Several insurance companies offer a small deductible but you have to know that you are paying the difference somewhere in your quoted policy. The deductible amount should be large enough that your monthly payments are lowered but not so large that you will not be able to afford if you file a claim.

Many quotes will include items such as road side assistance and car rentals if this is something you do not need then it should be removed to lower the quote. You want to find out what the insurance company?s policy is for forgiveness of accidents or moving violations and how easy it is to file a claim. If you need answers for any of the information that is included in the quote ask the agent, you want to understand everything before making your final decision.

Be honest and disclose all information about your previous accidents, moving violations and your type of vehicle when obtaining quotes. You can waste a ton of time by giving the insurance agents the wrong information only to find that the quote you received will change once they do a check and determine the true facts.

by Graham McKenzie

Often when you’re shopping for quotes from car insurance companies the phrase “incidence rate” will be brought up fairly frequently. Many consumers do not fully understand what this means, but in reality it’s just a easy procedure to determine the risk level of your vehicle by using the statistics that are given by auto industries that show how likely your car is to be involved in an accident, be stolen, or the severity of damage it suffers from a small accident.

When one applies for insurance the company is not only interested in their driving record, but also in the kind of car they drive. There are several factors that may affect the incidence rate of a car, such as its popularity among car thieves due to value after disassembly, weaknesses that could lead to accidents or failures, or the temptation that the driver will engage in reckless driving due to superior performance levels.

To determine the level of risk associated with your car the insurance company will look at professionally produced statistical lists supplied by the auto industry. These lists include information such as the universality of parts, failure rates, and the number and types of accidents the car is generally involved in. These have all been thoroughly researched by experts in the field who specialize in statistical analysis.

It seems common-sense that sports cars are more likely to be involved in reckless driving incidents or speeding violations. But there are also some incidents that are not so obvious. For instance, statistics show that a white or light-colored vehicle is more likely to be involved in accidents than darker vehicles. Knowing this information can help consumers make better decisions about the types of vehicles that they choose. Incidence rates can be found either by searching the Internet, or by asking a car dealership for the information. By knowing this information and how it affects your insurance premiums, you will be able to see why your quotes differ from other drivers with similar driving records.

Every year thousands of cars are stolen and never recovered, which makes some cars a big risk for insurance companies. If your car is listed as being likely to be stolen and sold for parts it could hurt your rates. You can counteract this by installing security features to deter thieves or help you locate your car.

If your car is a color that’s more likely to be hit by another car, such as white, you can add uninsured or underinsured motorist protection to ensure that you are covered in case the other driver isn’t. Most of the time the insurance company will allow a lower rate in this case as they’re protected from extra costs. Remember that even though it’s illegal to drive without insurance it’s still very common to find people who don’t think they need it. You have to think ahead to protect yourself in this situation.

By knowing the incidence rates associated with your vehicle and the ways to offset them you can ensure lower rates, but it works both ways. It’s possible to research and seek out the cars that have the lowest theft rates and best safety records in order to get the lowest possible insurance rates. When advertisers note good performance and safety records they’re really drawing your attention to the possibility of lower rates.

Two Types, Three Varieties

by Charles L Stanley CFP ChFC AIF

Two Types, Three Varieties

Annuities come in several types and varieties and some are extremely complex; unfortunately, the more complex they are the more opportunity for abuse there is. So, following is a simple breakdown on the Two Types and Three Varieties of annuity contracts.

Type 1. Immediate Annuity

An immediate annuity is one in which regular income payments from the insurance company start within twelve months of the payment of premiums to the insurance company. The immediate annuity is not sold as often as the deferred annuity. There is usually less commission for the insurance agent and consumers are generally unwilling to give up access to their principal.

Type 2. Deferred Annuity

A deferred annuity is one in which premium payments are made and income payments from the insurance company are delayed for more than 12 months from the premium payment date. This could be a single payment or a series of payments over time. More often than not, purchasers of deferred annuities die without ever turning the annuity into an income stream . In other words, it is never actually used as an annuity (a monthly or other regular income payment from an insurance company). It is used as a tax deferred savings account and after the saver has died the income taxes wind up being paid by the beneficiaries at ordinary income rates. Taxation of the growth of the capital is deferred until the income is distributed to the annuitant or beneficiaries. This is the most popular type of annuity, largely due to the fact that it is a way of saving without paying current taxation. It is also more popular with insurance agents because this type typically pays a much higher commission than an immediate annuity according to James P. Pedigo writing in a National Underwriter article, “”Making Income Annuities Irresistible” Feb. 5, 2006 (Immediate annuities) do pay about half the percentage of commission that deferred annuities pay.

Variety 1. Fixed Annuity

A fixed deferred annuity always pays a fixed interest rate that is declared by the Board of Directors of the insurance company, typically on an annual basis although some contracts guarantee the interest rate for longer periods of time. These are known as multi-year contracts. The guaranteed interest will fluctuate based on the frequency of Board actions to reset the interest rate which is stated in the contract. The value of the annuity will not fluctuate with the stock market, only the rate of interest earnings will vary over the life of the contract.

A fixed immediate annuity will make its periodic payments determined by the initial value, the age of the annuitant or the period certain and an interest rate determined at the beginning, the time of annuitization. The payments will be constant over the life of the payout period. A portion of each payment is treated as a return of principal and the other portion is treated as interest on the principal which is taxed as ordinary income. The proportions of each payment are determined by a formula based on the age of the annuitant, the current interest rate environment and the amount of tax deferred accumulations. The proportion between principal and interest will, therefore vary from contract to contract.

There is a quite rare form of fixed immediate annuity that has payments that increase in order to keep up with inflation. If you compare an inflation-adjusted immediate annuity to a plain fixed-rate immediate annuity you would find that for a certain premium payment, the initial income payment will be greater for the plain fixed annuity than for the inflation-adjusted annuity. Due to the time-value of money, the insurance company has to earn more over time to pay you the future increasing monthly check.

Variety 2. Variable Annuity

The account value of a Variable Annuity will fluctuate based on the performance of the underlying investments referred to as separate accounts or sub-accounts. Separate Accounts are essentially the same as mutual funds that are dedicated to providing investment opportunities for variable life insurance and variable annuity contracts. They are not sold outside of the insurance contract. A variable annuity is designed for the investor who is willing to accept financial market risks and expects to receive the higher market returns.

A deferred variable annuity grows income tax deferred the same as a fixed deferred annuity. A potential drawback is that all income from an annuity is taxed as ordinary income (generally a higher rate) and the investor looses the advantage of capital gains treatment (generally a lower income tax rate).

An immediate variable annuity makes regular income payments based on the value of the underlying investments which are unitized. A unit is essentially the equivalent of a share in a mutual fund. The number of units is guaranteed and the distribution from those units is based on the investment performance of the investment units. If they rise in value, so do the income distributions. If, however, they decline in value so will the income distributions. The expectation of a variable immediate annuity is that over time it will go up more than down and the income stream will therefore be able to keep up and maybe out-perform inflation thus maintaining the investors purchasing power over time. That is getting harder to do since annuity companies are raising their fees, which of course, come out of investment performance. This is according to a review by Symetra Life Insurance released this month which says 9 of the 10 largest issuers of variable annuities are raising their fees.

Variety 3. Equity Indexed Annuity

The Equity Indexed Annuity (EIA) is a relatively recent development (the 1990s) and is an extremely complicated contract. The EIA has more moving parts than any of the other annuity varieties. It is, for the present time at least, considered a fixed annuity because it has certain minimum guarantees that dont exist with a variable annuity. A variable annuity, while an insurance contract, is regulated as a security. The SEC has just released an announcement of a new definition that will deem virtually all EIAs securities rather than insurance contracts. This will result in these EIA contracts being subject to the SECs oversight rather than the State Insurance Departments. The new definition will go into effective January 12, 2011. (http://www.sec.gov/news/press/2008/2008-298.htm ) If it is more likely than not that the value of an EIA at maturity will exceed the guaranteed value, it will be considered a security. At present, these contracts can be sold by agents only licensed to sell insurance products. If the change takes place, it will require a securities license to be able to sell these EIAs.

The Equity-Indexed Annuity is a deferred annuity. The EIA’s performance is tied to one or more securities indices like the S&P 500 Index or the NASDAQ Index or several others. In oversimplified terms, if the index goes up during the measuring period (which could be a month or a year or more depending on the contract) more than the guaranteed amount, the contract is credited with a percentage of that excess performance (the investor will never be credited with all of the outperformance). If the index loses money during the measuring period, the investor is credited with whatever the guaranteed amount is in the contract. In theory, this is a pretty good sounding deal ” get more if the markets go up and, supposedly, dont lose any if the markets go down. If it were that simple it would be a good deal. But remember, I as I previously wrote, these are extremely complicated contracts. It has been my observation that many of the people selling them dont understand them, let alone the people buying them.

A Very Brief History

In modern history, the annuity contract was designed to allow an individual to purchase or create their own pension plan if their employer didnt provide one as a part of their employee benefits. The annuity could be purchased by either a single payment or a series of payments. An individual traded some of their savings for a guaranteed income for life, regardless of how long they lived. Of course, in those days, it was typical that a retirement time frame was a very few years. Life expectancy did not go much beyond the retirement age of 65, so a person didnt need to buy a pension that would last for 30 years or so. Those early contracts were strictly fixed annuities. Variable annuities were not invented until 1952.

Today, annuities are primarily tax deferred savings vehicles. With the advancement of the Baby Boomers onto the retirement scene, it looks like annuities are changing again, this time back to something more akin to their original form. These annuities will be driven by the income goals rather than the accumulation goals. The new twist is that they will also have more options because Baby Boomers are accustomed to personalized treatment and the ability to demand certain benefits from the providers of services and get what they want. Insurance companies will have to at least appear to give them that.

The need of an affordable health insurance plan is increasing day by day with the increasing number of risks involved in daily life. It has now become a basic necessity in addition to food, clothing, and shelter. However the question still remains as to what is exactly an affordable health insurance plan and how to go about it.

Moreover, a lot of factors other than the price affect the health insurance decisions of an individual or a group. These can be summarized as the kind of coverage required, the term for which the coverage is required, the amount of deductible, percentage of co-insurance and the type of health insurance desired I.e. indemnity based or service based.

The major factors that affect the health insurance plan are age, gender, your medical history, profession, existing preconditions etc. Higher the risks involved, higher will be the health insurance quote. As if you are in a profession that has risks involved then your chances of running into catastrophic illness increases undoubtedly.

In addition to the websites of the insurance providers, there are a lot of insurance brokerage houses on the World Wide Web that guide you in your pursuit of the most affordable health insurance plan. One such brokerage house is www.insurancecaredirect.com , the online wing of the reputed firm Insurance Care Direct, where the employees are inspired by one single motive of serving their clients in the best possible way. It generates instant health insurance quotes for individual as well as group health insurance plans, the two major forms of health insurance subscribed to by the majority of Americans.

If you are a beginner and not familiar with the glossary and jargons involved in the proceedings than feel free to ask the customer service who are always at your help. However don’t tend to fill up wrong details about yourself in the form provided because this may lead to under-rated or over-rated quotes which do not fill your requirements. So be careful while filling the necessary details.

by Dr Robbie Cox

With the economy eliminating so many jobs and in spite of COBRA (which is very expensive unless one qualifies for the special 65% govt reimbursement), many people are losing their company provided health insurance and turning to the private market.

The first place most people turn to is the Internet.. and in most cases, they are disappointed as they expect to find a quote and offer, but instead, they are told that their information will be forwarded to one to five local agents.

Within seconds, the phone begins to ring, and by about the third call, the seeker is both ticked off and disappointed.

But to get to the answer of the lead in question, the answer is a strong, bold, and unequivocal “NO”. In fact, in most cases one can not buy insurance on the Internet period.. but let me clarify.

There are really two types of insurance.. or at least medical protection that is perceived as insurance. One type plan is an indemnity plan where the insuring company publishes a set schedule for certain things such as doctor visits, in and outpatient diagnostic tests; days in the hospital stated as “$X per day”. This type “policy” is offered without underwriting or medical questions and can be sold over the Internet. The better companies offering a policy of this type clearly state as the law requires, “This is NOT medical insurance and is not intended to take the place of a full major medical policy”.

However, for many people, it does. One reason is lower costs. But a policy like this is not as subject to state regulation and monitoring and while there are many long term, well established indemnity companies in the market, it seems as if every day a new firm pops up to capitalize on the current economic situation. The buyer of this type policy should be extra careful and see if the company has been around long enough to have established a good practice of paying claims! While this is obvious, it’s not done as often as it should be.

Another check that should almost always be done is the future insured should call their state insurance commission and see if there are any reports on this company.. either good or negative. Mainly in claims payment.

But to return “to theme” this is one type of “policy” that can be purchased on the Internet.. but again, it is not truly medical insurance.

True individual medical insurance will have these characteristics: First, it is “underwritten” or based on individual circumstances such as age, ht, wt, smoking or tobacco use, and current medical conditions. Most policies will not immediately cover pre existing conditions, or will rate up if they do. Pricing is based on these factors.

A policy of this type will generally have first a deductible amount which is what the insured pays first on a major medical bill. The deductible generally has to be satisfied before many other policy benefits kick in. There is an inverse ratio between deductible amount and total monthly costs. The lower the deductible, the higher the monthly cost, called a “premium”. Now in many policies, one can at least see their doctor at some “paid for” rate before having to satisfy the deductible. Many prescription plans are also written this way.

Now here’s the problem and a two sided dilemma: First, there are so many variables and options that the future buyer just looking at the Internet, and then being contacted by an agent, is not aware of all the choices they might normally have. Most people.. maybe you, the reader.. are not even aware the choices exist. One example: Your deductible. Does the deductible apply for a calendar year or a policy year? If you entered the hospital in Nov, you’d have to pay the same deductible as if you entered in Jan.. and when you’ve satisfied it, if you went back in Jan, even for the same problem, you’d be starting a whole new deductible. Not always.. but this is just one example of what you might not know.

Now let’s say you went on one of the Internet sites. You did a search engine look for “health insurance” and you got 25 listings to pop up from the search engine you used. You went to the first site and did not find a policy application, so you went to another. Next thing, usually within minutes, your phone starts to ring.

The call you are most likely getting is from what is known as a “captive” agent. He or she works for just one company, and has just one major product line to offer you. Do you think they are going to tell you the options you might have if you looked at a competitor? Of course not! They know you will be getting many calls; they know you are probably not educated in the selection process, and they know if they don’t get you to “buy” (which is really to put in an application), they will never talk to you again. As trained sales people, they know one first rule of selling it “give the prospect what they want’. Never mind if you don’t really know ALL you want or could have.. so they hear your buzz words of “deductible”, “Copay” and “Monthly amount”. It’s offered; it’s what you asked for, and you bought.. or actually only put an application in. The fact is that your application is far from guaranteeing you will be issued the policy you apply for. It can be modified with waivers or rate ups, but you won’t know for at least 5 work days in most cases. In the meantime, you tell future callers, “Thanks, I’ve taken care of it”. Little do you know!

There is some hope however. Another category of person or company who will call you is an independent broker. They do not work for any one company. They don’t have to sell or be fired for any one company. They have no vested interest in a certain and special company, and they have to know the competition. This kind of agent or broker can and will search for the company that suits you best. Their call may tend to put you to sleep because they are going to teach you and ask and explain the questions. Now as your author, I’ve been involved wearing both hats.. captive and broker.. and I’ll tell you this: More than half of my prospective clients are more interested in how many pixels their next HDTV will have than the finer points of this policy they are looking for. If this describes you, accept you are only going to get what you ask for. Pay attention; go buy a good book on buying health insurance. Get educated and be proactive.

So as we conclude the answer to the article title: One is you should not buy health insurance on line and one reason is you can’t. You apply for it through a good broker. You can buy an indemnity policy, but it is not true health insurance.

Meet the qualified vendors on line. After you have evaluated their offerings, then you can apply on line and use the tools such as PDF versions of their official brochures. This is not buying on line. If you consider that buying, this part is ok.
